Theft in the second-degree is a class C felony. The offense is punishable by:

  • Custody in state prison for up to five years, and/or
  • A fine of up to $10,000.

What is First-Degree Theft in Washington?

RCW 9A.56.030 is the Washington statute that sets forth the crime of first-degree theft. This form of theft is the most severe theft charge in Washington, and the crime involves the taking of property or services valued at over $5,000 or the taking of any firearm or motor vehicle, regardless of value.

Theft in the first-degree is a class B felony. The offense is punishable by:

  • Custody in state prison for up to 10 years, and/or
  • A fine of up to $20,000.
